Baroka Football Club is aiming to cause a major upset in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) against the log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns whom they face at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Sundowns is currently on top of the PSL food chain with 43 points after 23 matches and will need a victory in order to stretch their lead.
Baroka, while enjoying the 2017/18 PSL season, needs maximum points to consolidate their seventh position in the in the League.
In the first round of the League the 2016 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League winners thumped Baroka 4-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria in December.
Baroka’s chief executive officer, Morgan Mammilla said, despite their huge loss against Sundowns in the first round, they will emerge victorious on Sunday.
“We have put the 4-0 behind us. This is a new game altogether and we need points in order in to keep up with teams in the top 8 bracket. We are aware of the threat posed by them. These are the former African champions and they are leading the PSL race. It is big match for us and we can assure our fans that we will beat Mamelodi Sundowns to consolidate our seventh position in the League,” Mammilla said.
He also said that all the players will be available for selection except their new goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze who was signed by the club from Chicken Inn football Club in Zimbabwe on a three year contract last week.
According to Mammilla the reigning Zimbabwean league Goalkeeper of the Year award winner will only be available for selection in June.
“He is part the reinforcements for next season and he won’t be available for the remaining matches of these season. He is a quality goalkeeper and we are happy to have in the team. He comes in the team with wealth of experience having done wonders for Chicken Inn and we are optimistic that he will add value at Baroka,” Mammilla said.
