Local muni employees embrace healthy living
Municipality employees take part in annual Employee Wellness Programme to promote health and wellness
FREE STATE – A number of employees from the Thulamela Local Municipality took part in the South African Municipal Sports and Recreation Association (SAMSRA) Games at Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State recently.
The games, which have been played at various municipalities throughout South Africa since 1999, take place annually. During the games, employees from different municipalities compete against each other in various sporting codes.
Employee Wellness Programme organiser, Gloria Makungo, said over 40 municipalities across the country participated in this year’s games.
“The games are used to promote fitness and healthy living among municipal employees. It also serves to strengthen relations between the municipalities and give them the opportunity to share ideas on best practises,” said Makungo.
Thulamela Local Municipality employees participated in soccer, volleyball, netball, pool, and tug-of-war.
“Even though the participants didn’t win a trophy this year, we are sure they will do better during next year’s games.”
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Philelo Mulelu said they greatly enjoyed the games and they are excited to perform better in next year’s games. “Even though we didn’t bring home a trophy, we all had great fun,” Mulelu said.
The Thulamela Portfolio Head of Sport, Salphina Mulaudzi, congratulated everyone who participated in the games.
