The Academy managed this feat despite not winning any awards at the provincial sports awards.
Athletics South Africa President, Aleck Skhosana, said the Developing School Team of the Year award goes to a school that comes from rural or historically-disadvantaged areas; produced extraordinary consistency as a team; managed to conquer against all odds with limited resources; and demonstrated essential values of teamwork, resilience, courage and excellency.
The school’s Managing Director, David Benny Mufamadi said learners and staff are over the moon. He said Limpopo is the province of stars and they expect to achieve even more next year.
Another Limpopo athlete, Caster Semenya, was recognised as Sportswoman of the Year, and she too earned an International Achievement trophy.
Premier Chupu Mathabatha congratulated all the winners including Caster Semenya, Benny’s Care, Hlompho Kekana and Tirhani Mabunda of Sundowns, Mulomowandau Mathoho of Kaiser Chiefs and many others who hail from towns and villages in Limpopo.
