Pre-season prep like a pro
Review spoke to Noordelikes rugby player, Duncan van der Walt, to find out how he is prepping for the coming rugby season.
POLOKWANE – While many sports teams require their members to take part in pre-season training after a long hiatus, athletes often start preparing for the new season weeks and sometimes months in advance.
Review spoke to Noordelikes rugby player, Duncan van der Walt, to find out how he is prepping for the coming rugby season.
“I believe in throwing yourself in the deep end. Push yourself as hard as you can and always monitor your performance,” he tells Review.
Duncan says he always advises people to stick to a routine and to always monitor themselves as this is a rule he lives by.
He continues, stating he is a big fan of intense practice sessions and this helps with fitness and endurance, especially when you play a sport such as rugby.
“An intense workout helps your heart rate go faster and helps with overall performance.”
He also offered a few tips for anyone looking to start endurance training, stating jogging for long distances everyday is a good exercise that will help your lungs get used to the strain.
He also encourages starting a balanced diet long before the season.
“Believe in yourself. Monitor yourself and become the best you can be,” he concludes.
