Polokwane dancers off to World Dance Trials

Adelaide Mamzo Hlungwani discovered her passion for dancing after the birth of children... Little did she know it would take her and her dance partner, Thabo Bruno Nojaja, to Kwa-Zulu Natal

POLOKWANE – Discovering her passion for dancing when she wanted to get fit after the birth of her children, Adelaide Mamzo Hlungwani never thought her passion would take her to Kwa-Zulu Natal to represent Limpopo in a dance competition.

Mamzo and her dance partner, Thabo Bruno Nojaja were invited to compete in the World Dance Trials in Kwa-Zulu Natal to earn their provincial colours.

Originally from Lebowakgomo and now living in Polokwane with her husband, Abednigo, and her three children, Tshembo, Kulhula, and Sebotse Akani, this Department of Treasury Senior Financial Officer is dancing her way to the top.

“I grew up watching my mother dance and this awakened a flame in me from an early age. She loved listening and dancing to gospel and Sinaco music which is where I first fell in love with the passionate Sinaco music. After the birth of my daughter, Sebotse Akani, I gained weight and wanted to exercise to lose some of it. I enrolled at Jama dance studio and I have been a part of the studio ever since,” Mamzo said.

She said her family is her biggest supporters and she is grateful for their understanding of her passion.

Thabo is a part-time personal trainer and works as a sales consultant at a company selling sports attire.

“We are excited, while at the same time slightly intimidated, by the opportunity to compete against dancers from other provinces. We are hungry for the dance floor and the opportunity to showcase our moves. Dancing at such a big event takes a lot of hard work and dedication but our commitment as a dance couple to do our best and shine ensures we are ready to face the competition,” Thabo said.

As part of their preparation for the dance they exercise together in the mornings at the gym where they also seize the opportunity to practice their dance routines.

They encouraged anyone who is interested in dancing to give it a shot as it is a fun way of staying limber and fit all while socialising with people who have similar interests.
