Limpopo Impalas make history with CSA T20 final win

The Limpopo Impalas' win over the Northern Cape Heat marks the first time the trophy has been claimed by a Limpopo team.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Impala Cricket senior men’s team made history on Sunday following their six wicket win over the Northern Cape Heat at the Polokwane Cricket Club.

The Impalas went undefeated in their Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 challenge Division 2 campaign having won all their games comfortably.

This marks the first time the trophy has been claimed by a Limpopo team.

Disciplined bowling saw the Impalas restrict the Northern Cape team to 139/9 in their allocated 20 overs and they clinched the trophy with eight balls to spare in front of a large crowd of locals who pitched to cheer on the team.

Daniel Van der Merwe was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for 18 runs in three overs, while Don Radebe cemented his place at the top bowler of the tournament with two wickets for 26 runs in four overs.

Standout performances with the bat included a 51 off 57 balls by Sizwe Masondo, who also hit the winning runs, and a quick-fire 35 off 33 balls by Ruan Haasbroek that included two sixes’s and one four.

The Impalas walked away with a well-deserved R300 000 cheque.
