Top Lim equestrians prove their mettle

Limpopo's finest primary school and high school riders competed a two-day South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) third Limpopo qualifier show on June 28 and 29.

POLOKWANE – Limpopo’s finest primary school and high school riders competed a two-day South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) third Limpopo qualifier show on June 28 and 29.

More than 100 riders from throughout the province took to the arena to compete in numerous show jumping, working riding, dressage, equitation, performance riding and prix caprelli classes at Broadlands Equestrian Estate.

“The riders performed well; I think that Limpopo as a province improved a lot in the last three years. We should take about 60 riders to nationals, at Misty Meadows in October,” said Louise Hunter, chairperson of Sanesa Limpopo.

“We are looking forward to the next Sanesa show at Blouberg Riding School in Vivo at the end of July,” added Hunter.

In the showjumping classes local high school students, Hanke Nel, Reuben John Brent-Meek, Sanet Benade, Jason Hunter, Rebecca Ann Rowles, Kaitlin van Zyl, and Daniëlle Lemmer all achieved first places.

Marnique Gadda and Marna Booyens took first place in the beginner classes.

Kirsty Topham impressed the judges and took first place in all four dressage classes. She also took first place in an equation class with S.W. Liversage, Rochelle Meyer, Cassie Coetzer, Rebecca Moolman and Catherine Dewsnap each also taking first place in equation classes.

In the working hunter class S.W., Rebecca, Daniëlle and Nelmarie Rabe took first place.

The top spots on the podium in the high school working riding classes went to Carla Claassens while the Prix Caprelli class was won by Elri Botha. Carla Swanepoel took first place in the performance riding class.

The results of the primary school classes were not available at the time of going to press.
