Zeiss hosts a lively New Year Chinese market

As the sun set on a successful celebration, the Chinese New Year Market at Zeiss Market in greater Roodepoort proved to be much more than a festival; it was a spirited gathering that highlighted community, culture, and the joy of new beginnings.

Marketgoers gathered in high spirits as the Craft Market on Zeiss hosted a vibrant Chinese New Year market this past Saturday, February 21.

The event marked a joyfully relaxing day with lively music, delicious food, and a strong sense of community. From early morning, families and friends strolled through rows of stalls featuring handcrafted gifts, festive decorations, and unique cultural souvenirs.

The market attracted artisans and vendors from across the West Rand, offering everything from traditional crafts to gourmet treats.

“Today isn’t just about trading with our customers, but it’s about bringing our community together. We wanted to create a space where people can experience the culture, share special moments with loved ones, and enjoy what local makers have to offer,” said one of the hosts, Jeremie Strydom.

Food stalls served a delicious array of flavours, with visitors snapping up classic favourites and trying new tastes. Children took part in games and activities set up throughout the garden venue, while pet owners enjoyed the pet-friendly atmosphere with their four-legged companions by their side. Traditional music added to the cultural richness of the day, creating a lively backdrop as guests explored the market.
