Runners urged to support local charities
"These charities have been hard hit by the pandemic and we urge each runner to show their support, as no donation is too small."
Jozi’s largest Heritage Day celebration, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K, is back on Saturday, September 24 when runner entering the iconic event online can choose to support four local charities.
The local charities are Reach For A Dream Foundation (RFAD), Cotlands, Johannesburg SPCA and Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.
“We are excited to be back in 2022. Due to the pandemic, 2019 was the last time that this event graced the streets of Joburg. To say that we’ve missed Jozi would be an understatement.
“Our team is working round the clock to ensure that the 2022 event surpasses the experience of previous years.
“We are once again proud to support four local charities that have been doing exceptional work for the Joburg communities.
“They have been hard hit by the pandemic and we urge each runner to show their support, as no donation is too small.
“We can’t wait to welcome runners to the start line of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K,” said Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series.
Established in 1988, Reach For A Dream seeks to inspire hope and help children to believe in the power of dreams.
“Our goal and focus is to ensure that no child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness goes without knowing the power of a dream,” said Natalie Lazaris, Head Business at Reach For A Dream Foundation.

“The Johannesburg SPCA’s dedicated team works hard to protect animals, improve animal welfare standards, educate local communities about animal care, and re-home stray, donated or abandoned animals.
“Our main focus this year is to get into as many of our outreach areas as possible to assist communities with basic animal welfare issues,” said Liana Marx, Johannesburg SPCA PR, Marketing and Fundraising Manager.

“The collective support from runners to give back to the NGO sector is so inspiring for us, as it demonstrates the public’s appreciation of the vital role that we play in servicing and developing our communities for the better,” said Dr Monica Stach, Cotlands CEO.
