Florida’s Albion Football Club sets the bar during tournament
Soccer fans were in for an exciting day during the Florida Albion Football Club's GDPL tournament against the Vereeniging-based JJ Sporting FC.
Florida Albion Football Club took part in a Gauteng Development Promotional League (GDPL) tournament against the Vereeniging-based JJ Sporting Football Club at Trezona Park on April 26.
According to team manager Boikie Ramokgadi, it was an exciting day of soccer, with both teams giving their all on the pitch.

The U14 game was up first, standing head and shoulders above the visiting team.
“Our players showed discipline and dedication, making the most of every opportunity,” says Boikie.
“They managed to score two goals despite a strong defence by the visitors. Luckily, this was all they needed to clinch the victory, as the JJ Sporting FC team simply could not break through the Albion line, finishing the game without any goals.”
In their turn, Albion’s U15 had an altogether more frustrating time. From the onset, it was clear that the team’s confidence, on-field communication and strategy were lacking.

JJ Sporting FC held possession for the majority of the game, and pushed forward toward the Florida goal at every opportunity, keeping the home team on the back foot throughout.
Albion made a brief comeback in the second half, but this was nipped in the bud without much in the way of ceremony by the determined visitors.
The game ended with Florida taking a 2–0 loss.
Albion’s U17 fared much better against a very evenly matched JJ Sporting team, taking a hard-won 2–1 victory.
By the time the highly anticipated U19 game kicked off, supporters were on the edge of their seats, cheering loudly for their teams.

Even though Albion’s U19s are quickly gaining a reputation as a force to be reckoned with, the visiting team made it clear from kick-off that they were not to be underestimated.
The game was a nail-biting affair, which finished with a narrow 1–0 for Albion.
“It’s still early in the season,” says Boikie, hoarse from loudly spurring on his players.
“We are proud of our players and we hope that they will learn from each game.”
