Operation Shanela 2 boosted by crime intelligence
Intelligence provided police with much needed information.
SEDIBENG. – The SAPS in Sedibeng District continued to record significant successes under Operation Shanela 2, with Crime Intelligence-driven operations playing a critical role in combating drug-related crimes last week.
On March 18, a specialist team, including the Flying Squad, acted on a tip-off to launch a tactical operation in Vanderbijlpark.

During the raid, officers arrested a 42-year-old suspect found in possession of 300 Mandrax tablets and 50 packets of Nyaope, with an estimated street value of R20 500. The suspect has been charged with possession of and dealing in drugs and is currently being held at the Vanderbijlpark Police Station.
SAPS reaffirms proactive policing
Sedibeng District Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Mukhwevho praised the teamwork between Crime Intelligence and operational units. Police spokesperson Thembeka Maxambela stated that these co-ordinated efforts are essential for dismantling drug networks and making the community safer.
“This intelligence-led success forms part of ongoing Operation Shanela 2, reaffirming its commitment to proactive policing,” Maxambela said.
