Storm causes major power outage

KZN experienced a torrential downpour last Sunday, which particularly affected South Coast residents.
On the mid-South Coast, the storm caused a major power outage at about 19:00, which left Scottburgh, Park Rynie, Pennington, Umzinto, Umkomaas and surrounding areas without power for hours.
Ward councillors updated the community on the matter and stated that Eskom was aware, but due to the extreme weather conditions, it was almost impossible at the time to even attempt fault finding.
Around 22:00 that evening, the majority of community members in affected areas received SMSes from Eskom indicating delays in restoration because of the storm.
Although a little frustrated, the majority of residents on numerous social media community groups chose to be understanding of the situation. They were grateful to only have a power outage and not heavy flooding, extensive infrastructure damage and loss of lives which occurred in Margate.
Power was restored in most areas during the early hours of Monday morning this week and later in the afternoon in other towns.
