Golden Oldies delight in games
THE Amanzimtoti Golden Oldies Games from Tuesday to Friday, 1 to 4 October was enjoyed by some 200 senior citizens and declared a resounding success.
Seven teams from Mooi Hawens, Tabor, Poinsettia Park, Jabulani, Ezimangweni, Ilfracombe and the Amanzimtoti community showed off their competitive spirits.
The floating trophy for the group with the best team spirit was awarded to Poinsettia Park.
In the group games on Tuesday, 1 October Poinsettia Park was declared the winner in the duck walk; Tabor in the dress-up race; Poinsettia Park in passing the ball; Ezimangweni Luncheon Club in ring the stick and Amanzimtoti community in the ball kick and pass.
The fancy dress fun in the sun day at Lords and Legends on Wednesday, 2 October saw seniors take to the field in a variety of colourful costumes. The winner of the most original costume was Shirley Jansen of Tabor Flats; funniest costume was awarded to Maud Maritz of Poinsettia Park and most daring costume to Maryn Bridger of Tabor.
At the individual games on Thursday, 3 October the seniors enjoyed the competition.
The ‘ball in a bucket’ in the 60 to 69 years age group was won by Aletta Coetsee of Tabor Flats. In the 70 to 79 years age group, Marie Holman of Jabulani scooped the top prize and Yvette Gendron of Poinsettia Park won the over 80 year age group.
The ‘golf ‘ winner in the 60 to 69 years age group was Rachel Mans of Poinsettia Park. Zondani Hongwa of Ezimangweni Luncheon Club took the prize in the 70 to 79 years group and Rita Rosewaren of Jabulani Flats was the winner in the over 80 years age group.
The ‘rings for points’ winner in the 60 to 69 year age group was Emily van Beek of Amanzimtoti community; followed by Tony Garvie of Poinsettia Park in the 70 to 79 years age group and Charles Ricketts of Poinsettia Park scooped the prize in the over 80 years age group.
The ‘bean bags in a bucket’ game in the 60 to 69 years age group was won by Linda Coertzen of Amanzimtoti community; with Norma van der Walt of Poinsettia Park taking the winner’s title in the 70 to 79 years group and Rita Rosewaren of Jabulani in the over 80 age group.
The ‘ring the broomstick’ in the 60 to 69 years age group was won by Hlaleleni Hlengwa of Ezimangweni Luncheon Club; Beth Schrauwen of Poinsettia Park in the 70 to 79 years age group and Sheila Lambert of Tabor in the over 80 years age group.
Overall winners in the 60 to 69 years age group was Hlalaleni Hlengwa of Ezimangweni Luncheon Club and Rachel Mans of Poinsettia Park, both on 66 points each. In the 70 to 79 year age group Gill Brebner of Amanzimtoti community was the winner on 80 points and in the over 80 age group Rita Rosewaren of Jabulani on 57 points.
