Fashionista’s designs to aid disabled man

TOTI fashionista, Kathryn de Jesus' designs will take centre stage at a Latin heat masquerade and fashion extravaganza in Greyville on Saturday, 2 November, which will see part of the proceeds go to Keith Slabbert who is wheelchair-bound.

The venue is the Palm Court at Greyville Race Course. “It starts at 6pm and promises to be six hours of non-stop fun. There will be fabulous dancers and music with the highlight being a fashion show,” said Tracy Eagles, who is co-ordinating the event along with Kathryn.

Some 22 models, high school pupils in Toti will take to the stage to model some 170 items such as cocktail wear, club wear and matric dance dresses.

Tickets are R300 each which includes dinner. “We will donate part of the proceeds to Keith. On 25 August, 2012 he suffered a seizure at his home in Glenwood, fell over and fractured his C4 cervical vertebrae. As a result, he is paralysed from the waist down.”

The money will go towards funding an adapted vehicle, as Keith struggles to get his wheelchair in and out and for a hoist at his home.

Kathryn designs under the label 'Katt Walk'. “I have loved fashion all my life and being in the dance industry nurtured my love for fashion,” said Kathryn.

All her designs are sewn by seamstresses in Durban and Cape Town.

For tickets to the show, contact Tracy on 082-095-2180.
