Bird park has gone to the dogs

The ducks and geese no longer get fed either. In fact, there were no ducks to be seen.

EDITOR – I took a walk to the bird sanctuary this afternoon, with my two children and decided it was time to take photos.

I am so unimpressed and disgusted by the state of it.

It used to be a beautiful place to go to for a walk. The one trail cannot be completed as the bridge has been broken for about two-and-a-half years now. Because it is very difficult to walk this trail, the path hasn’t been cleared for a long time and a whole pile of branches lies overgrown on the trail, covering the log steps.

Another trail necessitates quite a jump over a mud patch, but what should be a small stream, up a slope. You’re lucky if you don’t slip and fall back into the mud. So this trail is also useless to walk. The only parts that still look usable are the areas where you can picnic. I have included photos taken back in 2010 to show what the water area used to look like, and what it has now become. It is a disgrace.

The ducks and geese no longer get fed either. In fact, there were no ducks to be seen.

There used to be about 40 ducks or more with their babies. Now there’s just a handful of geese around. I have no idea what they eat. The rabbits are gone too, although I’m sure nature took care of that in the form of a hawk or something. I’m not too sure what the staff do there all day, but surely they should be keeping the trails clear of branches, as indicated in my photo? Although, there is no reason to keep it clear because the trail is pointless without the bridge. Who is responsible for managing the bird sanctuary? Something needs to be done to uplift it.
