Boere meisies versus Brits in women’s knockout betterball golf challenge
The longest drives went to Chris Coetzee and Gerda Heydenrych.

THE Toti Golf Club golf day held on Sunday was a huge success, not only from the business side of things, but also for the quality of golf played, the weather and the spirit in which the day progressed.
A good field turned out to show their support for the men’s league fundraiser, which was great to see. Must also mention how impressive it is playing golf with a fighter jet doing rolls and dives in the skies directly overhead. Several times play came to a standstill while the players took time out to watch the aerial antics.
Very worthy winners on the day were the team of Bruce Whiting, Fred Wallace, Jacqui Porrill and Bester Swart, who shot 95 alliance points. The longest drives went to Chris Coetzee and Gerda Heydenrych.
Wednesday’s IPS competition was won by Bobby Milne on 37 points, with Wik van Wyk in second spot on 36, and Brian Stewart winning the count out for third place with 35 points.
On Friday there was a big field of 56 players that contested the nine-hole sundowner meat competition, and Chris Coetzee scooped the big prize with 22 points, followed by Clive Munien on 21 points, and N Sibisi on 20.
Saturday’s format was individual stableford, and Jorgie Jorgensen took the honours on 40 points from Rex Parsons by virtue of a count out. Brian Stewart was third on 39 points on count out from several other players. The nearest the pins prizes went to Chris Coetzee on the seventh and Wimpie Nel on the 17th, and the jackpot carries over to next week.
The women played a fourball alliance, two scores to count, and Ina de Boer, Lynette Roodt, Wladzia Olivier and Gerda Heydenrych won the day on 82 points oco from the team of Sue Daniels, Sue Boucher, Delene Berry and Jebby Dyson. Nearest the pin was Jebby Dyson, and Lynette Roodt had a two-club on the seventh.
This coming weekend sees the start of the women’s knockout betterball challenge, and the gauntlet was firmly laid down by the British pairing of Sue Daniels and Jebby Dyson who take on the South African boere-meisies aka Charmain Stone and Gill Symons. The other match taking place is between Brenda Morgan and her partner Liz Donald, versus Colleen Smit and Gerda Heydenrych. The players are all reminded that the first round must be completed by 15 April, so sort out your matches as soon as possible. Good luck to all the pairings for the competition – may the best team win.
The club renovations are well underway, the roof has been painted, and the inside of the clubhouse will be painted in the near future. The bar upgrade will also begin shortly, and the outside bar under the lapa will become the bar of choice while these renovations take place. Very exciting times ahead, and no doubt the clubhouse will be stunning once all the work is completed. Many thanks to the sponsors who have so generously undertaken to give the facilities a much-needed facelift.
