CCPO net closes on criminals

Through the community feeding us information, we may have prevented an incident and we got rid of undesirables from the area.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) assisted in a number of arrests in the last week.

On Friday, 18 July a member of the public contacted the CCPO about a suspicious looking vehicle in front of Warnadoone flats.

CCPO operations manager, Leon Joone contacted Sgt Jooste and W/O Nieuwoudt of the Metro Police dog unit, and together they pulled the vehicle over and questioned three Tanzanian nationals.

“One of the men had been arrested previously for a house burglary in Athlone Park and the other two had criminal records for similar offences,” said Leon.

The men were taken to Brighton Beach police station for further investigation.

“Through the community feeding us information, we may have prevented an incident and we got rid of undesirables from the area.”

Later in the day, another member of the public contacted the CCPO about a man running in Maple Road with a plasma television.

Blue Security and the CCPO responded. Reaction officers, S Dlamini and Wilson Ngcobo arrested the man in possession of the stolen TV.

“Further investigation revealed the man had broken into a house on the corner of Umdoni and Maple roads,” said Leon.

On Tuesday, 22 July Blue Security reaction officer, Neo Pakkis spotted a man carrying something wrapped in plastic in Hudd Road. “The man put it down and ran, but was arrested further down Arbour and Dickens Roads by CCPO members and Neo. He was carrying an amplifier and jewellery was found on his person.”

Toti Crime Prevention Unit constables, Khumalo, Lembede, Zama, Cele and Shimeyela established the man and an accomplice had broken into a house in Hudd Road.

They had allegedly contacted a third man to transport the stolen goods in his vehicle, which was found with the booty in it, in Isipingo.

“Co-operation between Toti SAPS, Blue Security and the CCPO has put the thief behind bars.

The outstanding suspects are known to Toti SAPS and more arrests are imminent. Thanks to everyone for the co-operation,” said Leon.
