FOUR men, two of whom were armed, held-up a staff member at Pep Stores at Arbour Crossing and robbed him of R1,000 cash on Monday, 17 August at about 9.15am.
“It is alleged that soon after the complainant opened the store just after 9am and as he stood behind the till point, four men entered the store. One came to him and purchased airtime, while another stood in the doorway and two more stood opposite the tills,” said Toti SAPS communications officer, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.
As the staff member was about to complete the transaction, the two men standing opposite the tills came across, pointed firearms at him and asked for the safe keys.
“He informed them that he did not have the keys to the safe and they demanded to see the store manager who was not in at the time. A witness, a customer who was walking out of the back of the store was also held at gunpoint and told to stand still.”
The robbers tried to open the safe, but failed and instead took cash from the till.
“They took the complainant to a changing room at the back of the store, put a gun to his head and insisted he hand over the safe keys. On telling them again that he did not have the keys, they left the store.”
He saw three of the men climbing into the back seat and one into the passenger seat of a white Toyota Yaris hatchback, which drove away. A false number plate, ND 808-223, was used. No shots were fired and no-one sustained any injuries.
Police are investigating a case of business robbery.
The Sun contacted Pep Stores head office about the incident, but they declined to comment.
