Baby among those injured in Umgababa accident

According to eye witnesses, the driver lost control and collided with a concrete barrier.

SEVERAL people were severely injured when the car they were travelling in along the R102 in Umgababa lost control and hit a bridge today (May 4). The accident happened on the Ngane River bridge around 15:00.

According to an eyewitness, the Toyota Tazz, with about five occupants, including a small baby, was travelling north when the driver tried to overtake another vehicle at high speed. The driver then apparently lost control and collided with the concrete barrier.

After the police and the paramedics arrived, one patient and the baby were rushed to the hospital while the others were treated at the scene for facial lacerations before they were transported to a nearby hospital.
