Young leaders empowered on nature walk

An engaging and thought-provoking leadership programme introductory session took place at Umbogavango Nature Reserve centre.

FUTURE leaders from Kingsway High School and Esizibeni High School embarked on a journey of discovery at Umbogavango Nature Reserve centre where they learnt about the Rotary Leadership Programme on July 26.

Three KHS matric learners, already entwined in Rotary through the school’s Interact programme, shone bright as success stories to inspire a young trio of EHS learners.

The group and their teachers were joined by past president of the Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti, and president Sipho Gumbi, along with two representatives of the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone and two young volunteers from WESSA who guided them through one of the nature reserve’s picturesque and storied trails.

A spirited round-table discussion spoke about the value of Interact clubs within schools, which instill leadership skills into young learners, with a hierarchical system that mimics that of the Rotary Clubs, with a president, secretary, administrator, spokesperson and other roles.
