Obituary: Remembering Priscilla Robinson Nicol

The family and friends of a beloved Amanzimtoti woman said their final goodbyes in a heartfelt obituary, showing the kind of person she was.

IT WAS with great sadness that the family of Priscilla Robinson Nicol announced her passing on September 25. She died from a heart attack at the age of 77.

Priscilla was a dedicated resident of Amanzimtoti, proudly calling it her home for 56 years.

Her rich career history spanned several notable places, including The Royal Hotel, The Hilton Hotel, the Dorbyl Marine shipyard, where she met her late husband Trevor Nicol, and RBC Coal Terminals in Richards Bay. She studied project management and worked as an executive personal assistant for most of her career.

Her friend, Ansie van Rooyen, said her family and friends remember her as more than just a neighbour, but as the heart of the Hartley Heights complex community, where she resided.

“She was a wise, warm and humorous woman, always ready with a listening ear and gentle words of advice,” said Van Rooyen.

She added that even during the final three months of her life, when her health declined, she remained willing to help where she could. On the morning of her death, she was visiting Van Rooyen, an act that speaks to her warm, connective nature. Her final moments were spent engaged in conversation and the familiar comfort of friendship.

She was endlessly proud of her children, Laurence Robinson and Melanie Caro, and spoke of them with glowing affection. Her eyes sparkled whenever she mentioned her beloved grandchildren, Skye, Tide, George, Holly and Blue.

She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, elegance, humour and quiet strength, and is lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
