eThekwini shuts down water supply to build up storage

eThekwini Municipality will shut down reservoir outlets linked to the Wiggins Water Treatment Works today (April 16).

ETHEKWINI Municipality has announced that this afternoon (April 16), it will shut down reservoir outlets that are dependent on the Wiggins Water Treatment Works to build storage for the restoration of the water supply.

In a statement, it said this exercise will take place from 17:00 to 21:00 and may be repeated until the system fully recovers.

“Currently, there is a significant reduction in gravity and high lift flow from the Wiggins Water Treatment Works. This is resulting in interruptions to the water supply in areas served by these pipelines. This includes a current 10-megalitre shortfall from the treatment works’ raw water inflow,” it said.

Affected areas in the South region are:

Athlone Park, Galleria Mall, Arbour Crossing, Kingsway Hospital, Two Cancer Centres, Ezimbokodweni, Southgate Industrial Park, Lewis Drive, Amanzimtoti CBD, Athlone Park and Kingsway Hospital, Almond, Winklespruit, Warner Beach, Illovo Glen, Lower Illovo, Doonside, Launceston, Illovo Beach, Karridene Protea Hotel, Panorama Park, Umgababa, Umnini, Mfume, KwaSoni, Mashiwase, Nkwali, Lovu A, B and C, Bhekulwandle, Msahweni, Lovu Phase 1 and Phase 3, Lovu Landfill, Inkwali, KwaMakhutha, Mkhazini, eMasomini, Ekuhlengeni Psychiatric Hospital, Ohlongeni, D1060, Adams, Adams Central, Zwelisha, Ilfracombe, Magabheni, Ehlanzeni, Thoyane, Umkhomazi, Craigieburn, Amahlongwa, Amalundi, Crowder Farm, Malukazi, Clansthal, V-Section, Malundi, Amahlongwa, Saiccor Village, Naidooville, Crowder Farm, Lewis Drive, Ugu District Municipality, and Quarry Reservoir.
