Isipingo’s Ally Road sewage outfall being attended to

The outfall had affected businesses for a long time and caused potholes on Ally Road.

AFTER nearly a year of disruption to local businesses, a long-standing sewage outfall on Ally Road in Reunion, Isipingo, is finally receiving attention.

Patric Munsami, an employee at a business in the area, said they have lost a lot of revenue because the outfall, not far from his company gate, drove a lot of customers away.

“That sewage created a bad impression on all the businesses on this street. Who would want to buy in a stinking place which is a health hazard?” asked Munsami.

He said repeated phone calls and WhatsApp messages only resulted in a growing list of reference numbers, but not a solution.
With the road always being wet and having constant vehicle traffic, big potholes were created, further affecting businesses negatively.
On June 1, Ward 90 councillor Shad Nowbuth was able to get employees from eThekwini Municipality’s sanitation unit to work on fixing the outfall.

“Ally Road has been repaired in the vicinity of the outfall to allow easy access, which previously was flooded with sewage and potholes. However, much more work has yet to be undertaken by the team to determine and resolve the source of the sewer outflow. Until then, work is not completed,” said Nowbuth.

Munsami expressed relief that the problem was being fixed.

“Businesses and the places they trade from need to be looked after because they create employment. Imagine what would happen if we closed and opened at another location because the municipality is not looking after us,” said Munsami.
