Power outages linked to Kingsburgh power station

Ward 97 councillor André Beetge confirmed that rotational power outages are related to the Kingsburgh power station.

WARD 97 councillor André Beetge explained that rotational power outages are related to the Kingsburgh power station.
“Following repeated requests for a rotational outage roster to enable residents, as well as water operations to plan in accordance, we stand informed that no such roster has yet been drafted,” said Beetge.
He explained that the eThekwini Municipality’s Energy Management Directorate remains of the opinion it will be able to manage the demand and that such rotational supply will only take effect in extreme circumstances. The power outages, however, will be implemented as needed during evening peak demand period from 17:00 to 21:00.
A recent statement by the municipality explained that rotational load reduction is due to required maintenance on the 132 kV transformer circuit breaker at the Kingsburgh substation. Under normal operating conditions, the substation’s load is shared between two transformers.
