Sparrow Trust provides comfort to victims of abuse

The comfort packs are given to victims of sexual, gender-based and domestic violence to assist them with recovery.

SPARROW Trust, in partnership with the Amanzimtoti Community Police Forum (CPF) and police, have distributed 30 comfort packs for survivors of sexual, gender-based and domestic violence.

The project was officially launched in November last year during the 16 Days of Activism.

Founding director of the local counter-human trafficking organisation, Estelle van Eeden, said these comfort packs are given to the victims as a token of love, kindness and support as they receive the help they deserve.

“This partnership and initiative is a means to support the Amanzimtoti Police Station’s gender-based violence (GBV) desk and social crime prevention members as they provide assistance to victims of abuse. The comfort packs are used by the dedicated officers who provide the victim-friendly services, as well as several non-profit organisations who have rallied together to also provide free trauma debriefing and counselling on a weekly basis at the GBV desk,” she said.

Van Eeden added that with the generous support of community members and local businesses, they can continue to put together care packages for children and adults.
