Crime-fighters conduct search operations in Isipingo

Various searches are being conducted in the Isipingo area due to a recent rise in business and house robberies.

OVER 100 people were searched during a recent operation held by the Isipingo Police and their Eyes and Ears (E2) partners in the Malakuzi area.

The Isipingo Police Station’s communications officer, Constable Donald Naidoo, said the search operation was held due to a recent rise in business and house robberies.

“It consisted of regular stop and searches, roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints; high visibility patrols, including on-foot; the tracing of wanted suspects, with a focus on murder and rape suspects, and compliance inspections at liquor outlets and second-hand goods dealers,” he said

During patrols, Naidoo said unlicensed, illegal liquor premises were closed and liquor confiscated. “Through stop and searches, three knives were confiscated while one person was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” he said.

Naidoo added that this operation will be continuing for the next three months, with a focus on different hotspots in Isipingo.

He also thanked the E2 partners for joining the operation and partnering with their team in an effort to ‘take Isipingo back’ and make it a crime-free zone.
