Meredith joined St Mary’s church in the early 1980s, quickly answering the call to become a lay minister in the church. He also played the guitar during worship and could often be seen moving in his ecclesiastical garb from alter to guitar on Sunday mornings. He stayed in this ministry until his disease forced him to stop, however, he continued to attend church whenever he could.
Scott explained that in 1995, he joined 1st Umbogintwini Scout Troop as troop scouter where he became known by many young men as “Walrus”. He helped guide many young boys as they grew into men, taking them hiking, camping, rock climbing and learning about the outdoors.
Scott added that her father’s sense of humour and love for people was always on display as he always had a kind word and his gentle smile for everyone who crossed his path.
There will be a private cremation, followed by a celebration of life at St Mary’s Church on March 7 at 11:00. Join the family as they celebrate his life. Old Scouts are encouraged to don their uniform or scarves.
