The Blarney Brothers kicked off in 1972, having come from Ireland with an Irish show band called the Newmen Wonderband. The band split and some went on to make Ballyhoo, and Tony Fisher  and Paul Mcilroy making the Blarney Brothers with Damien Mcilroy who had just come from the Freshmen.

They got their start at house parties and began trying out action songs as a joke, but it took off and that became the norm. Over 10 000 shows later they became the Irish heartbeat of the South African music scene where Irish songs, actions songs, 60s and 70s classics became their flavor. The Blarneys have always had a big burly sound that just feels so festive.

Some iconic spots they played at were the Barn at Riverside, Fathers Mustache at the Malibu and River Gardens and in Amanzimtoti in the 1980s. Fast forward to 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic struck and the Blarney Brothers played their last show in 2020.

From the ashes of the Blarney Brothers came Blarney and Son, made up of Tony and his son, David. It took off rapidly and over 800 shows later, Blarney and Son continues spreading joy wherever they go.

The father-and-son duo keep that same old Blarney flavour, while still carving out their own unique sound.

If you would like to experience the magic of Blarney and Son, visit Monkey Man Burger Bar on July 3, where the band will play from 19:00 until 21:00. Vibey Fridays is family-friendly and creates a safe space for visitors, who can enjoy the live music each week with free entry.
