Whimsical wonders for Dr Seuss Day [Pictures]

Dressed to the nines in their storybook-inspired outfits, children let their imagination run wild for Dr Seuss Day.

IT was a day of wacky, whimsical outfits in celebration of Dr Seuss’ fantastical storybook characters. While it fell on March 2, Little Star Educare Centre (LSEC) and Doon Heights Primary School (DHPS) chose to celebrate it early on February 28.

The little learners at DHPS flexed their creativity by making their own hats before watching A Cat in a Hat. The young ones at LSEC enjoyed a dress-up day, letting learners step into the shoes, and outfits, of their favourite storybook characters.

Anne King, of LSEC, said, “We believe that reading and a strong foundation in English is essential for lifelong learning and success. That’s why we place special emphasis on books, reading and language development in our daily activities across the curriculum, and why we celebrated Dr Seuss Day, which was a huge success.”

The children were encouraged to explore their imagination, much like Dr Seuss did, and to develop a love for reading.

“Dr Seuss is best known for helping and inspiring children to read. The children took part in our Cat in the Hat book-reading day. Even the teachers and assistants got involved and played dress-up. A big thank you goes to Jennifer Carrol, who donated, inscribed and signed three first-edition copies of her new book, Gabriel the Giraffe: Sleepover at Grandma, to the children, handing them out as prizes for the most creative outfits.
