Beach Road brouhaha

A few years ago you couldn’t enter Beach road on these days unless you had a resident disk placed on the vehicle. Why can’t this be implemented again?

EDITOR – I am an exceptionally angry resident of Beach Road.

Yesterday, 16 December, it was chaos up until 11pm, with visitors hitting each other with bottles, pulling out knifes, taxi drivers pushing pedestrians on the sidewalk physically with their vehicles.

There was drinking in the road while as per my knowledge, this is illegal.

People were having braais in Rogies Park and that too is illegal, as this is not a designated braai area. The SAP had their hands full and I must admit they were trying their utmost to control the crowds but they were just not visible enough.

If this day was so chaotic, what will Boxing Day (26 December) look like?

A few years ago you couldn’t enter Beach Road on these days unless you had a resident disk on your vehicle. Why can’t this be implemented again?

And why was the noise allowed to carry on until after 10pm? As per a local policeman, noise should be kept to a minimum after 10pm but this seems to be ignored, as so many other laws such as having weapons.

I don’t have a problem with people coming to enjoy our lovely town, but I do have a problem with that fact that they can’t respect the residents and the property.

Will Boxing Day be a festive, calm family day or will it become a literal manifestation of boxing day as in another physical round in the boxing ring?

We shall wait and see.
