EDITOR – The testament I wrote last week for local community hero, George Snodey was more than overwhelming with so many people who have been part of crime in our area responding.
So many testimonies yet the one that really stuck out was that of retired Metro Police chief Terry Lang who asked if I was aware of George Snodey receiving the highest civilian award for bravery in the country some time ago.
His words were: “I was there when we were called to the Karridene Beach as an elderly Afrikaans man was washed out to sea and was beyond the shark nets. His family were on the beach and were extremely concerned, I knew that this man was going to drown as the situation was extreme. I knew if I went out, it could cost me my life. George Snodey arrived at the scene and without hesitation, he removed his uniform and swam out in this extreme, rough sea to bring this man back to shore. George was awarded the highest bravery award known as Wolraad Woltemade.
It is great to see George’s speedy recovery and to know he will be released from hospital next week if everything goes well.
