Toti AC’s hopes dashed at festive run
Unfortunately Queensburgh Christmas turkey pipped Toti s Christmas sleigh.

THE annual Christmas run hosted by Westville Athletics Club saw over 1,600 runners compete in the 15km event, which this year marked its 20th anniversary.
Among them, Amanzimtoti Athletics Club entered the friendliest bus, hoping to win the London bus floating trophy awarded to the friendliest, best dressed and original bus, as judged by the appointed officials.
Unfortunately Queensburgh Christmas turkey pipped Toti s Christmas sleigh. A big thank you to Cornel, Ron and Des for all the hard work that was done in preparing the sleigh for the battle.
This is the second year in a row that Queensburgh has taken the honours, so Toti will have to go back to the drawing board for next year’s run.
Members, friends and family enjoyed the social on the field. Thanks to the club for sponsoring breakfast and refreshments. All members looked great in their red and green Christmas outfits.
The last time trial of the year will be run on Wednesday, 18 December. The club encourages a big turn-out as it will be handing out time trial badges to members who have qualified. On Thursday, 26 December at 9am the chairman’s run will take place from Hutchison Park to the bird park. Mince pies and refreshments will be served after the run.
Members who need to qualify for Comrades must note the Hillcrest marathon on Sunday, 9 February, with the Maritzburg Postnet on Thursday, 23 January. Both races are strictly pre-entry races and no entries will be taken on the day.
Members are reminded that the Winkle-Toti-Winkle beach run hosted by Winkle SLC takes place on Monday, 16 December. There is a 12km and a 4km run, both of which start at 9am. Food and refreshments will be on sale and all monies raised will be used to assist Winkle SLC fundraising for the year. The club urges members to support this event in force.
