Scotties Old Boys lift East Griqualand 10s plate
Tyron Leech and Conrad Kleinhans were selected to the East Griqualand side.

ON Sunday, 23 February, Scottburgh Old Boys’ Rugby Club held a golf day at Selborne Golf Club.
Chairman, Steve Leech said the day was a huge success with over 60 players participating. The rugby club would again like to thank all their sponsors for the generosity.
Last year the club had an excellent season and because of this, it has moved up a division and will now have to field two sides. The first team will play in the Durban League and the second team in the Southern Natal League. With this in mind, the club is calling for players. Practise is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5.30pm at Scottburgh Country Club.

This past Saturday, 14 Old Boys left the Scottburgh club at 7am for Kokstad, to participate in the East Griqualand 10’s tournament. Led by the mercurial Chad Fisher, who will almost without a doubt be elected as the 2014 captain when the time comes, the Scottburgh lads put in a sterling effort.
The rules of the day allowed each side to have 22 players, and at any stoppage in the game, fresh legs were allowed onto the pitch, as many times as needed. This format of the game consists of two nine-minute halves and is extremely fast. It is played on what appears to be a very large pitch, considering that only 10 players per side are involved.
In the first of the Old Boys’ five matches, newcomer Rees von Balkan came off with torn finger ligaments, bringing the already short-staffed bench down to three players.
During the third match, Jason (Panda) McKenzie, left the field concussed and in the last match, Tyron Leech found a pothole on the pitch and damaged his ankle. The Old Boys however, in a never-say-die fashion, went on to win the plate.
Tyron Leech and Conrad Kleinhans were selected to the East Griqualand side to play at Kings Park this Easter. Kudos to them.
Many players were dumbfounded that Chad Fisher, who scored eight tries in the tournament, was not selected. Without bias, on the day, he would have looked good in the best sides in the country, including in the Sharks team.
This Saturday the Old Boys will play a friendly against the South Coast Warriors at Scottburgh Country Club, starting at 2.30pm.
The Old Boys thank all their sponsors and supporters who are a driving factor in the club’s success.
