Cardinals B claim baseball trophy

CARDINALS Major Bs progressed to the knock out fixtures on 13 April, which were the conclusion to the 2013/14 season.

The first semi-final started at Hoy Park at 8.30am against Orioles.

Robert Ackermann was on duty on the mound and he shut the Orioles batting out with 10 strike outs, leaving the fielders very little work to do.

Russell Haygarth and Ryan Loxton took a fly catch each and Robert had one assist out when he collected a batted ball and passed to Jason Carelse for an out at first base. Orioles managed to squeeze in two runs on fielding errors. Cardinals were on form with the bat and Robert and Kyle Hartzenberg managed 2 RBI’s on good hits to the outfield. The following runs were recorded: Jason one, Bevon Merrick one, Robin Smith one, Robert one, Russell two, Kyle two and Ryan Loxton one. Final score was10-2 to Cardinals.

The hyped B side met Rockets in the final. Jason started on the mound and got five strike-outs and three runs were brought in by Rockets during his stint. Robin closed off the final frame and managed one strike out. Cardinals created pressure with the bat and the fielding. Jona Verrall took two fly catches at left field, one of which Robin got at second base and Kyle one at right field. Jason picked up a ball on the mound and passed to Robert for the out at one. Russell also assisted with an out at third base to Robert at one. Runs were plentiful. Jason got two, Bevon got four, Robin two, Robert two, Jona two, Russell one, Brenden Visser one, Kyle one and Ryan two. Ryan’s second run was a spectacular home run from a ball that stopped short of the tapes but his wheels got him to home plate before the ball got back to the catcher. All in all, it was an emphatic 17-3 victory over Rockets to take the trophy in the final.

Cardinals As also played knockouts in their league and defeated Hillary 5-1 in the first semi final. Their final was against Sluggers and they managed a 7-5 victory to also finish the season in style with the trophy.
