Val is ABC’s senior singles champion

THE honours board competitions are gradually being finalised at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club.

Greg McLeod, Robbie Roberts, Owen Turner and Pati Nelson had a convincing semi-final win in the men’s drawn fours picking up a seven and an eight against Peter Callaghan, Ian Mills, Peter Shepard and Dave McMillan.

Greg and team went on to face the team of Don Saunders, Alf Bingham, Mike Roberts and Vish Studinski in the final, which was a close game in which Don and team took the honours by one shot in the last end. In the men’s nominated trips final, Peter Callaghan, Ian Mills and Mickey Roche were the victors over Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder and Ray Robinson. Val de Kok took the womens’ senior singles title in a well fought game against Barbara Beamson.

In other competitions, Barbara Beamson and Jeanne Alexander defeated Doreen Salmond and Marion Crouch in the nominated women’s pairs; Tokkie de Kok beat Lynn Joubert by one shot in the women’s’ handicap singles quarter finals; and in the semi-final of the men’s senior singles, Ian Crouch goes through to the final after beating Lofty van Tonder.

At the key draw on Friday at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club, Boet Els’ key no. 54 was drawn; however it did not fit the keyhole. The prize goes up to R2,800 next week. Buy your tickets early, and remember the more keys that are eliminated, the greater your chances are of winning the money. In the attendance draw, Felicity Paxton’s social tab no 47 was drawn, but as she was not present, next week’s draw is worth R400. The 100 board was won by Ian Mills.

The winners of big chicks were Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder, Julie Sutherland and Mickey Roche; the runners-up were Coy Schrauwen, Bobby Stewart and Maureen and Hennie van der Poel; and in third place were Don Saunders, Dave Kemp, Bill Williams and Jacqui Fouché. The first session went to Peter Callaghan, Clive Frank, Shane Tocher and Denise Bingham; and the second session was won by Dallas Davis, Noreen Butler, Dennis Hughes and Eric Klopper. Most bowls went to Liz Morgan-Davies, Mike Groom, Steve Anderson and Debbie Groom. Lucky 13th team was Peter Shepard, Lee Jordan, Brian Cox and Tony Darley.

The 100 board was won by Peter Snyman, and the bottles of wine by Maggie Robertson and Jenny Greenslade. Note that B green will be closed from the beginning of September until further notice. Therefore in next month’s Big Chicks there will be some teams who have a bye, check the notice board. This will be done on a rotational basis. Also please note several upcoming Port Natal competitions are displayed on the board, check and add your name if you wish to play.

On Wednesday, 24 September which is a public holiday, Picardy Bazooka Moths will run a mixed fours competition. The format will be two sessions of 10 ends; time 8.30am for 9am. Put your names up on the board if you want to play. The monthly mixed 2-4-2 competition will be on this coming Friday, 22 August at 1,15pm, and Sunday it is the mutton competition.

Many happy returns go this week to Frank Quinn, Dave Gardner, Bill Williams, Andrew Walker, Mickey Roche, Barry Bush and last but not least, the lone woman, Annatjie Boag. The club wishes all members good health and good bowling.
