Toti GC floods South Coast region champs
Amanzimtoti Golf Club welcomes all visitors to the beautiful course
THE South Coast Region championships were held at Scottburgh last Sunday, in cool, blustery conditions, with the wind speed reaching up to 45km per hour.
Amanzimtoti Golf Club’s woman captain Jacqui Porrill took no notice of the inclement conditions on her way to achieving tied winner of the silver open division, and outright winner of the silver division closed event.
Her two rounds of 86/76 and 89/79 gave her an overall gross of 175, nett 155. A great result for Jacqui and the club, and added to that Toti GC had one of the biggest entries per club for the event, with nine girls turning out on the day, which was very good to see. It has been said that the new uniforms can be seen from outer space, and this may be true, as wherever one looked there was a flash of lumo orange shirts.
Brenda Morgan was the next best from Toti in the silver division, while Colleen Smit and Cheryl Flutter led the bronze entrants home. Lass Davis was the best of the senior women from Toti. Well done to all players, it’s not an easy feat playing 36 holes of medal on Scottburgh golf course.
The Elvis evening held on Saturday night was a great success, with wannabe Elvises springing up all over the place, and some interesting dress-up challenges in the change-room involving the white sequin outfit worn by Elvis earlier in the evening. Suffice it to say that Bobby Presley has a real talent if ever he wishes to go into entertainment. Thanks to all members and friends for their support of this fundraising event.
Well done to member Jessica Milne who has been selected to play in the inter provincial hockey tournament currently taking place in Pietermaritzburg. Toti GC wishes her luck in all her matches, and trusts she will do as well on the rectangular field as she does on the golf course.
Wednesday’s IPS field attracted 32 players, with Nigel Johnson winning in fine style with 40 points, followed by Martin Tait who beat Brian Stephen on count out with 39 points. On Friday the nine hole sundowner competition was contested by 36 players, and Janco Vogel was three shots clears of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed players. Winning the 19 point count out was Bobby Milne followed by Nigel Johnson and Vik de Klerk.
The women played IPS on Saturday, with the field being rather small as the women conserved their energy for the Sunday 36 hole game, and Delene Berry took the win with 37 points from Lass Davis on 36. Nearest the pin on the 7th was Gerda Heydenrych.
The men played an individual medal stableford, with a fine field of 74 taking part. Sheldon Grant took top honours with 44 followed by Hamilton Kerr on 43 and Mike Murphy on 42. Thereafter there were a spate of 40 points, with Michael Dunlop and Bobby Milne filling the fourth and fifth places. Nearest the pin on the 4th was Fred Wallace, while Rob Wilson was closest on the 15th hole.
The jackpot and attendance draw were not won so carry over to next week.
The spring treatment is scheduled to begin on Sunday, 31 August until Friday, 5 September. The course will still be open for play.
