Pistol shooters aim at champs medal haul

NATAL Pistol Shooting team who attended the Eastern Province Pistol Championships in East London in February.

All seven members are affiliated members of the Natal Pistol Association, and six are also members of the Poinsettia Pistol Club in Amanzimtoti.

Between the seven members they won 30 medals in 15 different shooting events.

Newest member, Julie Meyer, attended her first-ever pistol shooting championships and won a medal in the pocket pistol event.

Danie Reyneke received gold medals in carry gun, centre fire, sport pistol, free pistol, police pistol A, rapid fire pistol; silver medals in service pistol A, service pistol B, stock semi auto; bronze medals in 50 yards, police pistol B, standard pistol.

Neil Reyneke received gold medals in 50 yards, air pistol, service pistol A, standard pistol, free pistol; silver medals in centre fire, pocket pistol, police pistol B, service pistol B, sport pistol, police pistol A, rapid fire pistol.

Gavin Jones received a bronze medal in police pistol B, police pistol A.

Kevin Matthews achieved a silver medal in carry gun.

Brian Brittain achieved a bronze medal in air pistol. Chunky Bouwer achieved a silver medal in air pistol. Julie Meyer achieved a bronze medal in pocket pistol.

The Natal team also competed against four other provinces including Central Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Northern Gauteng and South African National Defence Force and achieved first place in standard pistol, sport pistol, centre fire, 50 yards, rapid fire pistol, police pistol A, police pistol B, service pistol A, service pistol B, carry gun, pocket pistol; second place in free pistol, air pistol and stock semi auto.

The Natal members are at present hard at work, practising in preparation for the national pistol shooting championships which will be held in Cape Town during the last week of April.
