The sunny, mild weather stood in stark contrast to the cold, rainy conditions of 2023. Participants enjoyed a range of events, including a 10km walk, a 10km run, a 21.1km half-marathon, and a 42km marathon. Spectators filled the roads, balconies and verandas from the early start at 05:30, enthusiastically cheering the runners as they raced by.

Sapphire Coast Tourism’s Romy Wenzel, who also took part in the 21.1km race, said it was a great opportunity to showcase the beauty of the Sapphire Coast.

“It was well organised – kudos to the Amanzimtoti Athletics Club and all volunteers who assisted with a smooth running event. Despite strong winds, many runners and walkers of all ages showed up at the start line to enjoy this year’s race. It’s so rewarding to be cheered on by spectators and participants alike, without necessarily knowing one another – just sharing the same passion of running and community spirit,” said Romy, adding that 1 724 runners crossed the finish line.
