Upon entering the school premises, the echoing chants of supporters could be heard as they cheered for their favourite indoor soccer teams.
Rizwaana Cassim of the Seva Bhakti Foundation said, “We were overwhelmed with joy and gratitude at the incredible turnout for our charity cup. The day was filled with excitement, camaraderie, and unforgettable sporting moments that truly brought the community together. We’re incredibly proud of how the day turned out and grateful to everyone who helped make this fundraiser for our underprivileged school lunch drive possible.”
The foundation partnered with Isipingo Soccer Academy, which played a key role in ensuring the success of the tournament, co-ordinating teams, officiating matches and upholding the standard of the game.
The U10 division had two enthusiastic teams participating, and Pirates of the Isipingo Junior Soccer Academy (IJSA) took the win. The U15s saw five teams duke it out and PSG of the IJSA clinched the top spot.
The hotly-contested senior tournament hosted a whopping 19 teams, split into four streams, with 40 intense matches and an impressive total of 245 goals scored across the matches.
Cassim commended the level of play during the tournament, and said the spirit of sportsmanship was evident throughout.
First place went to the Isipingo Rangers ‘A’ team, closely followed by Chatsworth-based Hakuna Matata and the Rangers ‘B’ team.
A range of other exciting competitions took place during the course of the day, including a ‘thunee’ card game popular among locals, a saree competition, a burger eating contest and a spicy noodles challenge.
