Toti schools clash in inter-school cross-country

South Coast schoolchildren took to the track, donned their running shoes, and competed in an inter-school cross-country championship.

THE Upper South Coast Inter-School Cross-country Championships saw a high level of running and an inspiring display of passion among the athletes in Amanzimtoti recently.

Wade Botha of Warner Beach Preparatory School applauded the level of running by learners.

“It was amazing to see the young faces light up as they received their certificates and trophies, taking a step on the podium in recognition of their achievement. Thank you to all the staff, learners and parents that came out and supported what was a fantastic afternoon celebrating our runners,” said Botha.

This year’s event marked the first time since 2011 that the inter-school trophies were awarded to the winning schools in each age group.

Once the final runners had crossed the finish line and points were tallied, Warner Beach Preparatory School emerged victorious overall by a margin of 28 points. Amanzimtoti and Umbogintwini Primary Schools were second and third respectively.

Results by division:

U9 girls: Kuswag Skool

U9 boys: Kuswag Skool

U10 girls: Warner Beach Preparatory and Amanzimtoti Primary Schools (tie)

U11 girls: Warner Beach Preparatory School

U11 boys: Amanzimtoti Primary School

U12 girls: Warner Beach Preparatory School

U12 boys: Warner Beach Preparatory School

U13 girls: Warner Beach Preparatory School

U13 boys: Amanzimtoti Primary School
