Traffic warning: Fuel price increases cause queues
With the petrol price set to increase at midnight, motorists are heading to filling stations to help shoulder the added financial burden.
WITH the fuel price increases looming tomorrow (April 1), motorists are advised to expect heavy queues to form at fuel stations throughout the rest of today (March 31).

What can motorists expect?
- Significant delays on roads adjacent to fuel stations.
- Sudden stops and merging traffic near fuel stations.
- Congestion on major roads.
How to beat the traffic?
- Avoid non-essential travel where possible.
- Avoid routes with multiple fuel stations.
- Do not block intersections or driveways awaiting entry to a fuel station.
- Plan for extended travel times.
The delays are expected to persist throughout March 31.

What is causing the fuel station queues?
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy put out a statement covering fuel price adjustments for April 2026. Prices will be adjusted as follows:
- Petrol 93 (ULP & LRP): R 3.06 per litre increase.
- Petrol 95 (ULP &LRP): R 3.06 per litre increase.
- Diesel (0.05% sulphur): R7.37 per litre increase.
- Diesel (0.005% sulphur): R7.51 per litre increase.
- Illuminating Paraffin (wholesale): R11.67 per litre increase.
As such, motorists are filling up to help shoulder the added financial burden.
