Montclair hijackings leave victims shaken
TWO hijackings took place within minutes of each other in Roland Road and Roland Chapman Drive on Tuesday, 30 July.

Magdelena Arnold (46) was attacked by four young men outside her daughter’s residence in Roland Road at about 1.30pm. One of the men pointed a gun at her head through an open window. The man commanded her to unlock all the doors and to get out the vehicle. The hijackers sped off towards South Coast Road.
“I am fine now, but after the hijacking I was not myself. My chest closed up because I’m asthmatic, but my daughter kept me calm,” said Arnold.
In a later incident, Msawenkosi Mbeje (54) was sitting in his car in Roland Chapman Road at about 2.50pm when he was attacked by five men, one of whom was armed with a gun. He was reading a newspaper, with the radio playing in the background, when a man attempted to snatch his car keys from the ignition through an open window.
A struggle ensued but he was overpowered by the men who continued to beat him up. The men left him on the side of the road. Police and medical services were called to the scene. He was taken to Addington hospital and was discharged on Thursday, 1 August.
“The incident left me shocked and fearful. My hope in law enforcement was restored when my vehicle was recovered. I would like to thank Montclair SAP, they are truly fighting against crime,” said Mbeje.
