Convincing win in monthly open pairs bowls
Inflicting the worst on their opponents were the combination of Gary Moffat and Lilah Nel who were convincing winners on the day with 4 + 17.

WOODLANDS Bowling Club’s montly open pairs were played on Wednesday, 7 August with 16 teams participating.
Inflicting the worst on their opponents were the combination of Gary Moffat and Lilah Nel who were convincing winners on the day with 4 + 17.
Bob Hayward and Collen Blenner-Hasset dealt out a bowling lesson to Keith Wild and Jumbo Nel to win 25-2 and thus the first session on 2+23.
The second session was more closely contested with Spider Williams and Koekie Koekemoer coming to the fore to win with 2+7. The consolation drawn chocolates were claimed by Chris Klopper and Ken Koch – skips and Neville Homer and Clarke Meyer – leads. Keith Wild received some respite by pocketing the major share of the 60/40 board with Lilah Nel settling for the minor share. Spider Williams will be roasting the pork.
Last Saturday the Woodlands league side had a good 3-2 win against Queens, winning one game and losing the second only to earn the extra bonus point with a superior shot average. Rina Harper and Andy Cloete represented Woodlands at the annual Port Natal champion of champion.
Rina, playing at Parkhill, was unfortunate to draw Louise Larkin in the first round and put up a commendable effort, only to eventually bow out. Andy, playing Stella Park, won his first round match against DHSOB’s Rob Wicks 21-14 and then went down by the same margin in the second round to Bereas Tony Bruchez.
Lyndon Smith, Stan McNamara and Dennis Tarboton picked the right numbers for Friday night’s meat draw. There was no snowball due to the holiday with the pool automatically increasing to R350 for next week’s draw. The monthly bowlers 100 club draw produced profit for Derek Botha. The numbers 4-9-10 and bonus 11 coughed up a fifth carryover in the lotto jackpot, with the bonus pool also proving to be exclusive. Rosa Vincent’s name emerged first from the barrel in the Saturday swindle to claim the lamb chops. Her name also came out third, which she gracefully forfeited. Other winners were Brian Elliot, Trevor Hubbard, Trever du Plessis, Rob de Wildt, Dennis Tarboton, Dave Vincent (2), George Moore(3), Greg Berry and Lesley Morrison. Once again thanks for the sponsorship. The R150 national lotto bonus number draw was won by Trevot du Plessis. Chubbydale Greg Berry, noted for his twinkle toe performance on the dancefloor, has now had a disco strobelight installed in his bedroom for reasons only known to himself. Rob de Wildt and Willie Whatley are working on the virtues of being recognised as masters of interpreting the naked form of the undressed chicken. Who knows ‘chicken form’ may become the future trend of the art world. Both Dave Leuchars and Stud managed to evade the dreaded green jacket at Umkomaas on Saturday. Dave has now returned from his holiday in bonnie Scottland and rates attending the Open Golf Champions as his highlight while reflecting on the madness of the exchange rate. A solitary day at the golf, without going overboard, cost the equivalent of an average holiday for two in South Africa. However a lot of his mates appreciated the presents he brought back. Congratulations to Bill ‘Tap Tap’ Donswear on celebrating his birthday on Saturday, 10 August – the number is known only to himself.
