The WI was fortunate to have Charles Botma, who teaches English in China, as its speaker. It really was a most informative talk as he told members about China and the cultures and how every child is so very keen to learn and education is a top priority. There are 1.6-billion citizens in China and 36 provinces. The main languages are Mandarin and Cantonese and a word can mean something different just by the tone of the voice. Apparently people come from all over the world to teach English. Thanks were expressed to Charles.
