A journey from soldier to acclaimed author

Sibusiso Shange, who serves at The Bluff Military Base, has blended his dedication to the armed forces with a deep passion for the arts.

A BLUFF-BASED soldier scooped the Best Author Award at an awards function for artists held in Durban recently.

Sibusiso Shange, a soldier based at The Bluff Military Base, is also an actor who has made remarkable strides in the field of acting.

Shange’s artistic journey

“My true passion lies in the arts, a field I have been deeply immersed in for many years. My artistic journey took flight at the Mbongeni Ngema Performing Arts Academy, where I honed my skills as a scriptwriter. One of my notable works, the script Azibuye Esezadlula, was performed at the renowned Playhouse Theatre, showcasing my dedication to crafting compelling narratives.”

In addition to scriptwriting, he is a versatile author with a diverse portfolio that includes novels, short stories, documentaries and poetry.

“My literary endeavours are further supported through Nomagugu Productions, the publishing house I founded. It encompasses several divisions, including book publishing, through which I have been able to foster and share a wide range of literary works,” he said.

He said the recent award is a testament to his contribution to the literary world. He said this accolade marks a significant milestone in a journey that blends military service with a profound dedication to the arts.

“This accolade adds to my previous recognitions, which include being named a Professor of Art and receiving prestigious certificates from Oxford University, the Department of Arts, Culture and Sport, and other esteemed institutions.

“My journey from a soldier to a celebrated author and cultural advocate reflects a deep-seated commitment to both my professional duties and artistic pursuits,” Shange added.
