Dawn Coetzee, chairperson of the entertainment committee, said the highlight of the lunch was most definitely the delectable feast prepared by Antonia Rodrigues from Spitfire Catering.

“Residents enjoyed a succulent spitbraai of lamb and chicken, accompanied by garlic buttered baby potatoes, yummy salads, fresh rolls and rich chocolate brownies and cream for dessert,” she said.

Coetzee expressed her sincerest appreciation to the head chef and his partner for their excellent service and accommodating nature throughout the event.

To add some excitement to the day, lucky draws for raffles were done and Mary Tholet went home with a Tupperware set, while Ronel Lategan became the proud owner of a beautiful quilt. Both prizes were donated and given towards raising funds for Arcadia.

Coetzee also expressed her gratitude to The Bluff community for their ongoing support during and after the event. Through generous donations and two major fêtes held earlier in the year, the committee managed to raise around R30 000.

She said these funds enabled the residents to enjoy a special meal at Lords and Legends earlier this year and culminated in the memorable Christmas lunch. In a touching gesture, each resident also received an envelope containing a monetary gift for Christmas.

Coetzee also took a moment to thank her committee and all the residents on the fête team for showing immense dedication and for putting in the time throughout the whole year.

“May I take this opportunity, on behalf of myself and my committee and the residents of Arcadia Retirement Village, to extend a blessed Christmas to every single one of you, as well as a very prosperous 2025,” she said.

The annual Christmas lunch was a testament to the power of community, generosity and teamwork in creating special moments for Arcadia’s residents. It was a day full of joy, laughter and the spirit of the festive season.
