Nature reserve receives much-needed infrastructure boost
The Yellowwood Park and Woodhaven Ratepayers and Residents Association welcomed the infrastructure boosts to Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve.
THE Yellowwood Park and Woodhaven Ratepayers and Residents Association is celebrating the return to use of some nature trails and amenities which had been washed away by floods. The renovation has given new life to sections of the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve, long favoured by families and visitors in the area.

Among the most important improvements were the repair of ablution facilities in the central picnic area, the installation of a new drainage pipe to better facilitate water flow, the rebuilding of a 15m section of the main driveway, rebuilding a vital part of the disabled-access path for safe and effective utilisation and installing a new, more resilient crossing, to replace one which had been washed away, to deal with higher water flow.
Martin Birtwhistle, secretary of the Ratepayers Association and a resident of the reserve, praised the work.
“These renovations are significant to our community. They have opened up areas loved by many, improved safety and allowed our residents, including those living with disability, to continue enjoying the outdoors. On behalf of the Yellowwood Park and Woodhaven Residents and Ratepayers Association, as well as residents in the community, they are grateful for all the work that has been done” said Birtwhistle.
Dwayne Rees Davies, Afrostructure construction manager, said they were motivated by a sense of collaboration to work on the improvements. “Since the commencement of our operations, the reserve has generously provided us with access to their property and facilities. In this spirit of co-operation, we identified and executed these specific improvements to support the operational sustainability and enhance visitor safety,” said Davies
The Yellowwood Park and Woodhaven Residents and Ratepayers Association believes that these restorations are not only functional but a good investment in the community.
