Strong winds rip roof off home on The Bluff

While no injuries were reported, the house sustained significant damage, leaving the debris scattered around, according to the Bluff CPF.

STRONG winds tore the roof off a home on The Bluff at the corner of Hedge and Pickman Roads last night (December 28), leaving the property significantly damaged.

According to the chairperson of the Bluff Community Police Forum(CPF), Sidney Govindsamy, the strong winds struck suddenly, lifting the roof from the house.

“No injuries were reported. It was just damages to the house due to the strong winds,” said Govindsamy.

Spokesperson for the Bluff CPF, Aveshin Moodley, said the roof landed on power cables.

“The roof was hanging very dangerously on the cables. It also caused slight damage to the neighbouring roof. Our CPF and ward councillor [Zoe Solomon] assisted in getting eThekweni Municipality to respond. Homeowners worked quickly once power was isolated to secure sheets to ensure no further damage occured.

“The fire department also came through to make sure all was secure and there were no injuries,” he said.

While the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, there was structural damage to the house.
