A resident who asked to remain anonymous said, “I was fast asleep when I heard a loud bang outside my house. I woke up in bed and took cover as I could hear the bullets flying through the air.

“The situation remains tense as we fear that the shooting could erupt again. The groups exchanged gunfire yesterday. We live in constant fear that these gang-related shootings will one day claim a life. Innocent people could be hit by stray bullets. Some of the walls in Hime Street flats have bullet holes, highlighting the severity of the situation,” said the source.

Spokesperson for Wentworth police station, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said no arrest was made.

“A case of discharging a firearm in public is opened and under investigation. Suspects are unknown, as there are no arrests made,” said Gumede.

However, a police source at the scene confirmed that the shooting is related to a long-standing war over territory in Hime Street. The police are monitoring the situation.
