eThekwini Municipality responds to refuse bag outcry

The Waste Management Directorate has resumed distribution to ensure that households receive the remaining allocation for this quarter.

FOLLOWING the public outcry regarding the shortage of black refuse bags, eThekwini Municipality has confirmed that the issues have been addressed.

According to a statement from eThekwini Municipality, the Waste Management Directorate has resumed distribution to ensure that households receive the remaining allocation for this quarter and continue to dispose of waste properly.

“Distribution has already commenced across the City, with ward-based schedules to be communicated to ensure residents are informed. The City appreciates the patience and co-operation of residents during the brief period of unavailability and apologises for any inconvenience caused,” eThekwini said in a statement.

Last month, eThekwini Municipality issued a statement about the shortage of black refuse bags in some areas after test samples that were sent to the South African Bureau of Standards failed to meet the approved quality standards.

eThekwini provides black refuse bags for domestic waste, delivered every three months, while blue bags are for garden refuse.
